Classroom Benefits

One of the most popular songs on the Super Simple Songs 1 CD is "Go Away!" This track is a follow-up to that song, so that students who look forward to singing that song every year can look forward to the sequel ^_^. This song is meant to be a fun way to introduce some very useful and important language to young learners. "Go away!" is an important phrase for children to be able to use when they feel threatened, and introducing it in a fun way using Halloween characters allows young learners to learn the phrase in a safe environment.

Activity Ideas

Sing-Along
Change the characters in the song to include some other scary Halloween characters. Or make this into a song you sings when children scrape their knee or bump their heads. "Go away, little boo-boo, go away!" 1

Goblin Tag
Who is the goblin? Flip the cards to find out! You will need some space to run around for this game. Choose any 10 (or more) flashcards, including the goblin. Shuffle the cards and spread them on the floor face down. Take turns flipping the cards one by one. Name each card after you turn it over. When one player turns over the goblin card, he says, "I'm a goblin!" and chases the other player. The other player runs away saying, "Go away, goblin!" 2

Go Away, Spooky Goblin!
Tape off sections in four corners of the room. Place one of the "Go Away, Spooky Goblin!" picture cards (goblin, spider, skeleton, bat) in each corner. The teacher stands at one end of the room and becomes "Spooky Goblin." The students start off standing in the center of the room. When the teacher calls out a flash card, the students move to that corner of the room while avoiding Spooky Goblin. Spooky Goblin should intentionally move slowly and not catch any of the students at first, allowing all the students to reach the correct corner. Spooky Goblin can walk on his/her knees, wear a blindfold, or walk like Frankenstein's monster! When the students reach the corner, they can chant, "Go away, Spooky Goblin!" until Spooky Goblin retreats to the other side of the room. If Spooky Goblin catches a student, that student becomes the next Spooky Goblin!

Be a fun and playful goblin, not a scary one! 3
