Key Gestures:
Dog - Slap your thigh as if calling a dog.
Cat - Stroke imaginary whiskers with your thumb and index finger.
Duck - Open and close your full hand in front of your mouth, imitating a duck's bill.
Rooster - With your fingers spread wide, touch your thumb to your forehead, representing a rooster's comb.
Pig - Push the tip of your nose up with one finger.
Elephant - Move your hand downward away from your nose in a wavy motion, representing an elephant's trunk.

Activity Ideas

Using the printable flashcards from the Resource Center, play "What do you hear?" Put the cards face down in front of you. Pick up a card and make that animal's sound. Let the children try to name the animal. For example, if you say, "Woof woof!" the children can guess, "Dog!" Take turns, letting the children pretend to be the animals. 1
