Super Simple Songs at home

Posted on by Devon

We use Super Simple Songs in all of our classes and it’s a joy to see kids singing them, but we don’t often get to see the kids really get into the songs at home.  The parents of our students often share stories of even the shyest kids in class really letting loose when they listen to the songs at home.

It’s something to remember when teaching young learners.  The classroom can be quite intimidating.  In addition to being in foreign environment, younger children are still learning to be comfortable playing with other kids.  It’s very natural for young learners to be reserved in class, but VERY talkative and active at home.  Young learners LOVE to imitate their teachers at home, so be aware that even the quiet kid who never says anything in class IS listening and most likely re-living your lessons over and over again at home.

Here’s a fun video of Dylan in Belgium enjoying Walking Walking at home uploaded by his Mom, Sarah.  I love it when he plays the trumpet at the beginning!

Hi Devon! I always encourage my Children’s Art Workshop parents to sing the songs we learn with their kids at home. At the beginning of a course I will provide a lyrics sheet of the songs we’ll be learning, as well as information about where they can purchase the music. I am very choosy when it comes to the music I incorporate into my lessons, and most of it is still hard to find here in Germany. I have hung a small poster about Super Simple Songs by the door of our workshop, because we love to sing so many of your wonderful songs, including Open, Shut Them, I See Something Blue, Count and Move, The Shape Song. It is really fun for the kids to practice at home and then show what they can do when they come to class! I hope to have some videos up soon on my blog: http://www.childrensartworkshop.blogspot.com

    Thanks again Devon!

    Hi all of you!

I am a teacher of English in Romania, Oradea and I must say that I enjoyed a lot your videos and your ideas of teaching.
I want to know whether it would be possible for me to receive by mail your SSS cds and, maybe, the way of using the songs.
    Thank you very, very much

    Respectfully,
